Marrakech – Imlil – Djeb Toukbal – Marrakech

Here we head south out of Marrakech toward Imlil. Imlil is a quaint peaceful village in the high Atlas Mountains.  Its well placed position made this town the center of mountain tourism. At 1740 meters above sea level, Imlil sits just below Djebel Toukbal the highest peak in Northern Africa. 

Located about just under 2 hours out of Marrakech, the scenery once again turns lush and green.  The road narrows and just out of the market town of Asni, it climbs up to the village.  We leave our car here, and travel either by foot or mule. The village blossoms in spring and summer, with waterfalls surrounding it. Small shops run by local Berbers, trading in silver jewellery and other local crafts can be found along the way before we hit the end of the road at Toukbal. 

Head back down on the other side of Imlil, by foot. Stop off at an auberge for tea on the terrace and soak in the breathtaking views of Toukbal and the old Kasbahs that surround the village.  Lunch can be had at nearby Kasbah Toukbal’s terrace, which will fill your eyes with its magnificent views.
